Yoga in nature - Hofstade

Hilde Timmermans, Instructor

When I was a child, I loved to move my body. I did gymnastics every day. But then I fell in love with dance. At age 22, I visited the Dominican Republic on holiday and discovered that people there dance and sing in the streets. There is music on every corner. That trip gave me a new perspective on life.

Back in Belgium, I learned more about African music through my daughter’s Congolese family. I have been practising Zumbia for 13 years — and have been teaching it for ten. I have my own style that draws upon Latin and Afro-Carribbean influences. I just love to dance “Footloose”.

I discovered yoga in my late forties, when I was working for a TV Company. My boss took our team to do some “hot yoga” to help with insomnia. For me, it was a revelation. After that first lesson, I went 5 times in 8 days. I began to regain my flexibility and have never looked back.

After four years of practise, I gained a teacher training certificate and have now been teaching yoga for 6 years. My classes are warm and uplifting, with plenty of laughter. I welcome people of all ages and experience to my rural studio, set against the backdrop of the beauty of nature.

Canelle - therapy dog Yoga Prinsenveld

Cannelle, Therapy Dog

I am an 8 year old Border Collie. I am calm, friendly and very relaxed about meeting new people and dogs.

People tell me that I’m a good listener, because I always show that I’m interested in what you say by moving my head from side to side.

My favourite activities include: chasing tennis balls, lying in the garden and having a good scratch. I am good at sitting and I will sometimes give you a paw if I am not too shy — and if you ask me nicely!

Loni - therapy dog Yoga Prinsenveld

Loonie, Therapy Dog

Hello, my name is Loonie. I am also a Border Collie, but I am six years younger than my friend Cannelle.

Border Collies are working dogs originally from the Scottish border with England and are designed to work on a farm. But my job is to say hello to visitors to Prinsenveld Yoga, and to bark at pesky scooters that drive past.

Don’t be offended if I don’t sit for you — I find it hard to stay in one place and would rather chase a ball or a stick.

“5 months with Hilde have been great. We understand each other without words. There is plenty of space and sometimes we share experiences …”
